The challenge
How can we innovate how volunteer managers access the right information and tools they need? How will our identity reflect our mission and values?
Managing volunteers can be complex and overwhelming. It involves many moving parts, people, capabilities, and resources, all within tight timeframes. Volunteering Gateway aims to simplify this process, making it quicker and easier to find the right information and tools.
As an initiative of Volunteering Australia, Volunteering Gateway is a centralised resource directory designed to support Volunteer Managers and their teams. Providing access to best practices, compliance information, and essential resources for effective volunteer management — all conveniently located in one place.
In collaboration with Volunteering Australia, the project team developed the product value proposition, a brand platform, and a digital-first visual language. We carefully considered the vast and diverse spectrum of volunteering, ensuring accessible design practices and addressing the needs of a diverse user cohort.

Our aim is to put a spotlight on recognising and supporting the function of the Volunteer Manager role.
Volunteering doesn’t just happen.
Leading and managing volunteers
is more than just administration;
it requires time, talent, and skill. Without this leadership, there would
be no volunteering.
The Volunteering Gateway logo embodies a sense of community, connection, and growth, reflecting a positively ambitious and knowledge-sharing spirit.
The aim of the logo design was to ensure it successfully differentiates the Volunteering Gateway as a distinct service while maintaining a visual link to the Volunteering Australia peak body identity and global volunteering iconography.
The 'V' symbol and red hue align with globally recognised symbology for volunteering, as seen within the Volunteering Australia identity. The gradient colour is inspired by the National Strategy for Volunteering and evokes a friendly and inclusive tone, encouraging a positive future.
Interconnecting circular pathways symbolise the exploratory and interconnected nature of the volunteering ecosystem and gateway resources, while varying shapes celebrate innovation, diversity, and the positive impact of volunteering.
